some Sundays are simply worth dying for…some are just….memorable…
like being stuck in the mud…

We decided to visit a colleague, well, actually a group of colleagues, building their “beach house” on the East coast of Banda Aceh. My dear friend decided to take his beloved motorbike, regardless of the fact that the sky was a bit cloudy.
But in the end, that was NOT the problem.
The problem was that the night before we left, Saturday midnight, to be precise hard rain poured over Banda Aceh and the surrounding areas…but you know, before we left, we did not have a clue on whether this would influence out journey or not. We, actually, it was ME who did not have a clue.
So we had a nice ride…until we got there, around 30 minutes drive from where we live. And the trouble began when the motorbike had to go through some deep mud.
There was so much mud stuck under the mud guard of the front wheel that it simply stopped turning. Gosh…
The colleagues ended up having to pick us up, and we then had to return with a big plastic can of water and several types of make-shift tools to try to solve the problem.
After a bad case of sunburn for my fair-skinned friend, and the reinforcement of the patterns of my trekking sandals on my feet, we managed to get it free. So we made a promise to ourselves to go there next time ..if any time, by car, the precious, cool four wheel drive car that sticks around at the house during weekends.
And so, we kept our promise.
The following Sunday, armed with a bunch of snack, some bottles of water and the four wheel drive car, three bules and an Indonesian set out for another adventurous journey, though not at the same spot we went to the previous week. Well, to be honest, it was not really meant to be that adventurous. But the curious nature of four heads combined got the better of us, and we decided to take a smaller path going out of the main road ,”just to see where it ends up”.
As you might have predicted, it went quite a way.. through the mighty bushes and logging sites *don’t you dare to ask, legal???*
But we did not arrive at that point without going through…guess what, yup, MUD! AGAIN.
Seemed like the road was quite muddy, and the sight of truck going out of the site which originally put us on high spirit (well, that means the road is going somewhere, right?), soon made us realize hat the truck left behind a deep track on the mud that made it more difficult for our car that has a lower chassis to go through. Oh well…..
So, there we were…Sunday after Sunday…mud holes after mud holes….
Well, that’s what life is for, isn’t it?
Adventures…little bit, one at a time…but adventures still they were.
