Simpang Lima…oh Simpang Lima….
dedicated for people who have been to Semarang, or planning to go there…or have heard about it…or well…for anyone…
If you are thinking about going anywhere, just for the sake of fun, or having nothing else to do…why not going to Simpang Lima? there is a lot that Simpang Lima can offer to you, and some pepole might have known that fact already.
Close to Simpang Lima we can always lose the tight grip on our wallet and start spending some cash on juice, sugar, coffee, candy bars, tissue, soap…you know, every little thing we need to survive daily life in a decent manner. (decent means, not simply surviving, but some drops of cologne here and there…smells good, come on…you know it, don’t you?). If you go a bit further north east, you can find some fastfood counters, an array of copied DVD shops, taking little bites on very very expensive sandwich and sipping your your worth-the-money coffee…(well, it better be, cause it worth lotz of money…) In Simpang Lima you can also find a building that had just celebrated its 80th anniversary, a tiny little church waiting for visitors…
The traffic lights in this point….amazing….as also any other traffic lights in this part of the country. Though there is a big roundabout right in the middle, not to mention the TRAFFIC LIGHTS themselves, people would just go the way they want to go, ignoring the red lights (as usual…) and would only stop when they got stuck in the middle of the junction….voila…now you find what you are looking for…
For people who are familiar with their Simpang Lima, big question marks would already be floating around, am I right? where the h**l is north east? sandwich palce…church??? maye this girl is in Alice’s world…(refer to Alice in Wonderland…not any other Alices if there are any…)
No…no…I am not talking about dear old Humpty Dumpty…please stop by at Simpang Lima.
This Simpang Lima is one of the landmarks or Banda Aceh, in which in its surrounding we can find one of the biggest supermarket in town: Pante Perak Simpang Lima, CINTA photo studio (which is highly recommended by lotz of people), a catolic church, KFC and A&W, BCA ATM (oh yea, sure you know why this one is important…), Garuda Indonesia Airways office….the bottomline is that if you want to go downtown, it will do you no harm to start from Simpang Lima.

The story around the tsunami told that even back then, one of the waves going into town was broken at the Simpang Lima, so that one part of the area was wipped clean (cause it’s adjacent to the river mouth connected directly with the sea), and the other part "only" had knee deep mud flood. If you stand at this point today, it will be quite amazing if you don’t stand in awe. It is such a pretty spot, standing on the bridge, looking right to the river and faraway Bukit Barisan standing majestically, and to the left to the other part of the river leading to the fish market and with the lineup of military building along the river….hm….beautiful…
Before the Aceh election, this landmark had been adorned with various posters and stickers with the faces of candidates for governor, vice governor, major and vice major… (though deep inside my heart i cried…oh, poor monument, poor me…for having to endure such sight…since this is a public landmark, why not leave it sterile?)
For those who know Semarang, of course you can see immediately from the photo that it is definitely NOT Semarang. feeling jealous because you could never let your head bare while driving in Semarang? ha…ha…come to Banda Aceh…
So, "wanna go to Simpang Lima? let’go!" "which one?" "hm…good question….well, the one anywhere.."
PS: with necessary adjustment from the original post.
Regard.
